Butler 68 Youngstown State 59
The Penguins shot just 3-17 (17.6%) from beyond the arc as YSU dropped a critical last season match up to Butler, 68-59. Youngstown State has now lost three of their last five in Horizon League play after a 6-3 start.

Kendrick Perry led the Penguins with 23 points on 8-17 shooting from the field. Damian Eargle and Ashen Ward both compiled 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Butler was led by Chrishawn Hopkins, who scored 19. Jackson Aldridge made 3-5 from long distance for 15 points for the Bulldogs.

YSU took a 12-11 lead just before the twelve minute television timeout but that would be the last time that the Penguins would hold onto the advantage.

Following Ashen Ward’s three-point basket with 4:50 remaining in the first half to close the Butler lead to three (23-20), the Bulldogs went on a 12-5 run to end the opening twenty minutes of play to enter intermission with a 35-25 lead.

In a game of runs, Youngstown State opened the second frame by scoring 15 of the half's first 24 points to cut Butler's lead to 44-40 with just under 10 minutes left. However, YSU would only convert on 2-6 field goals during the next 5:37 compared to the Bulldogs' 5-8 as Butler took a 59-47 lead with a little less than four minutes to go. The Bulldogs prevailed 68-59.

Butler had lost three of their last four entering tonight's contest. The Bulldogs will travel to Cleveland State on Saturday.
