The Mahoning Valley Scrappers won game one of a three-game series with the Williamsport Crosscutters 7-4 Saturday night at Eastwood Field.

Carlos Moncrief’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth gave the Scrappers a 6-4 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.  The Scrappers added another run on a Jordan Casas RBI double and won 7-4.

Casey Gaynor came in from the bullpen and got the win for the Scrappers, while Nick Kirk shut the door earning his fourth save of the season.  Julian Sampson was saddled with the loss for the Crosscutters.  Despite getting a no decision, Owen Dew returned to form, pitching six three-hit innings of scoreless baseball.

The Scrappers will look for their second straight win against the Crosscutters Sunday night. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m.
