Batavia, New York – The Scrappers erased an early 3-0 deficit but couldn’t come back later in the game and lost to the Batavia Muckdogs, 5-4.
The Muckdogs scored a run in the first, second and fourth innings to take an early lead.
Batavia starter Ryan Sherriff retired the first 10 Scrappers batters he faced to keep the Scrappers scoreless until the fifth, when Mahoning Valley scored to make it 3-1.
In the sixth, the Scrappers scored two runs to tie the game at 3-3. But Batavia scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Mahoning Valley scored a run in the seventh to make it a one-run game, but the Batavia bullpen held the Scrappers scoreless in the eighth and ninth inning.
Harold Guerrero picked up the loss. He fell to 2-4. Batavia reliever Ethan Cole picked up the win to improve to 1-0.
Danny Miranda earned his ninth save of the season.
The Scrappers and Muckdogs continue their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
