the Youngstown Phantoms have already made their first three picks in the 2009 USHL Futures Draft today. I will be sending out a full Futures Draft recap later this evening. Here is info on each of our first three picks:

1(1) - Matthew Mahalak (G, Culver Academy), 6'2", 180 lbs, Monroe, MI -- Matthew was the top-rated goalie and top-rated player available in this year's Futures Draft, carrying a 4.0 GPA at Culver, with the potential to be a long-term goalie for the Phantoms and a serious college recruit.

2(26) - Connor Murphy (D, Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets), 5'11" 150 lbs, Dublin, OH -- Connor is a strong two-way defenseman with the ability to quarterback a power play unit for the Phantoms immediately.

3(27) - Peter Dudek, Jr (G, Nichols Prep), 6'3" 170 lbs, Cheektowaga, NY -- Peter is another strong goalie selection for the Phantoms with a prototypical goalie build, taking up a lot of space in net at 6'3".
