Salem did something no other team could do this season, and they have a trophy for their accomplishment.
The Quakers held off previously unbeaten Hubbard in Thursday's Division II District Championship game, 26-24, 16-25, 25-20, 25-18. The win was a bit of revenge for Salem, who lost to the Eagles (25-1) during the regular season.
Amy Scullion led the way with 23 kills, as Salem improves to 23-3. Mariah Halleck had 14 kills, 2 blocks and an ace, while Laura Brown recorded 44 assists and 4 aces. Lydia Shivers had 6 kills and 5 blocks.
Hubbard was paced by YSU recruit Jackie Carlisle's 30 kills. Lexi Starheim had 9 kills while Dawn Lingenfelter recorded 13 digs and 10 points. Marcy Angelo filled out the stat sheet with 46 assists, 12 points and 3 aces.
Salem advances to the Regional Tournament at Stow-Munroe Falls. They will play the Chagrin Falls District winner on Thursday, November 5th at 6:00.
