Poland softball standout pitcher Erin Gabriel earned national recognition Wednesday, being named Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year. The Sophomore Gabriel was 21-1 this year, allowing just five earned runs in 141 innings of work. She struck out a grand total of 318 batters, averaging sixteen strikeouts per game. For the season, she held oppsoing batters to a batting average of just .071, with an ERA of 0.30.
At the plate she batted .560, with three home runs with 28 RBI. Gabriel, who helped lead the Bulldogs to an appearance in the Division II State Finals, is already receiving major attention from every major softball program in the nation.
