Freshman Kelsi Thompson's leadoff home run in the bottom half of the second inning was the only run scored in the Division Two State Championship game as Hebron Lakewood defeated Poland, 1-0. Thompson had two hits for the Lancers who won their third straight state title. Poland had its opportunities to answer. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs in the third inning and had two runners on in the fourth. But both rallies never brought home a run. Sophomore pitcher Erin Gabriel turned in yet another stellar mound performance. She went the distance allowing only the one run while striking out 12. Gabriel finishes the season with a 21-1 record. Lakewood pitcher Alyssa Patznick went the distance for the Lancers scattering five hits. Poland finishes as state runner up for the second time in school history. The Bulldogs won 25 straight games en route to the state championship berth. Poland finishes its season with a 30-2 record.
