Columbiana softball finished the regular season just 10-9. Since then, the Clippers have ripped off five wins in the post season en route to the program's first-ever softball trip to state.
The regional finals...a 5-5 tie, two outs left in the bottom of the seventh. Dakota De'Amicis does the unthinkable, she steals home to win the game.
"Words can't even describe how they were feeling," said Columbiana head coach Bonnie Wilkinson. "Other than the screaming from the excitement, I think for the most part, the majority of people were rather speechless."
"There's a lot of buzz going around. The baseball team made it to state last year and I know they made it there before," said senior Jordon Stoddard. "There's a lot of talk going around and we're just really excited about it."
Every game played is another record set for the Lady Clippers, who are now just two games away from winning their first-ever state title.
"Such a great feeling. I can't even describe it," said senior Claire Brothers. "I just become speechless when anyone asks me about it and brings it up."
"It means a lot," added junior Jordan Stoddard. "We are so excited to be here, and we've taken every opportunity that we possibly could. It's a great feeling and we just hope to do our best."
"We're making history and it's so weird cause you never think about that," explained Brothers. "You never think about it when you're playing the game, you're just playing the game. You just come out here and do it, and then, all of the sudden, everyone's going to remember you forever."
As the Clippers work together to rewrite the record books, they know the closer they grow as a team, the better they get.
"If we just congratulate each other when we get a good hit and just keep talking to each other throughout practice and games and stuff, it definitely helps because we grow closer that way and growing closer just makes us a better team," said junior Katie Libb.
The Clippers will take on the Convoy Crestview Knights today (Friday) at 5:30 in Akron.
