The Champion softball team has advanced to the Division III State Finals with a 5-2 win over previously undefeated Clear Fork Thursday afternoon at Akron' Firestone Stadium.
Champion is the last remaining undefeated high school softball team in Ohio with a record of 26-0.
Champion pitcher Lindsay Swipas picked up the win on the mound, allowing just five hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. She improves to a perfect 18-0 on the season.
Haley McAllister led the way at the plate for the Golden Flashes going 3-4 with 3 runs scored. Lindsay Swipas, Tawny Rogers, and Sierra Blackson collected two hits apiece. Rogers and Blackson each drove in a run, while Alison Sorber finished with 2 RBI going 1-3 in the win.
Champion now advances to face Liberty-Union (28-2) in the Division III State Finals Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Akron's Firestone Stadium. The Golden Flashes are seeking the fourth state championship in program history.
Clear Fork committed four errors in the loss and ends the season with a record of 31-1.
