Youthful Roster has Staff Optimistic
Seven years without a winning season can seem like an eternity. Head coach Stacy Robinson thinks he has the players in place to get this program back on track. “We got some guys who want to win. A lot of (those) guys want to work at it. We’ve got some guys who were battle-tested last year. We are waiting to see what they do this year.”

The Scotties have a roster of 27 which includes just two seniors. The offense will go through 5’7 junior Drew Robinson. He has been an absolute blur when he gets the ball into the open field. One of Drew’s classmates, Jon Salmen, will lead the offense as the Union’s starting quarterback. Coach Robinson also made sure to commend junior playmakers John Clark, Wayne Seamons and Austin Smith for their work last year and during the summer workouts.

On defense, Scottie fans will see their group lining up in multiple fronts. “We’re not big so we’ve got to be able to move and hit with authority,” says Robinson.

With so many underclassmen asked to step into a starting role this year, the coaching staff has done a tremendous job of motivating and keeping the younger players’ spirits high. “Your confidence could be wrecked if you’re not really ready to be out on the football field physically or mentally,” Coach Robinson states. “I think we have got our guys through that. We don’t put a lot of great expectations on them. (All we ask is) go out and do your best”.

The Scotties open the season with a road test against Chartiers-Houston on Friday, September 2.
