Nowhere but Up
It wasn’t an easy season, to say the least, in regards to 2010 for the Southington football program. After a 10-9 mark in the previous two campaigns (2008-09), the Wildcats finished 2010 with an 0-10 record. Chalker was the only local school to not register a victory. The Wildcats allowed 46.1 points and scored just an average of 6.4 points per game. Both statistics placed Southington last among the 63 area teams.

In the middle of May, the Southington Board of Education announced that Ryan Slone would become the head coach of the football program. Slone comes to Chalker with one year of head varsity coaching experience. In 2010, Coach Slone guided Windham to a 2-1 start before faltering in their last seven to finish the year with a 2-8 mark. Prior to his stint with the Bombers, Ryan served as an assistant on Akron Springfield’s coaching staff.

Slone will have an uphill climb with a Wildcat team which only had 24 players on their opening day roster in 2010. “(The) big thing (which) I'm trying to do this year is make them believe in themselves," said Slone. "I can see that in our 7-on-7’s.”

The offense will be led by senior quarterback Kyle Reynolds. A pair of juniors will be counted on to establish the ground game in Hunter Romigh and J.C. Comella. The offensive line will be anchored by seniors Robert Ruschak and Hunter McKenney.

Coach Slone will get his first glimpse from the sidelines of Chalker in week one when the ‘Cats take on Waterloo.
