Since starting the season with a 2-2 mark, Struthers has won 7 consecutive games. The Wildcats notched their 7th AAC American Division win in as many tries on Friday over Niles, 60-56, led by Dylan Schmidt’s 20 points. Over the course of the last four contests, Schmidt has averaged 15.8. Since December 9, Jake Jacubec has compiled 222 points for an average of 24.7. The ‘Cats (7-0, 9-2) have played two schools from across the border in Pennsylvania since the 1995-96 campaign (Vision Quest in 1995 and Strong Vincent last year).
Strong Vincent (6-4) has won three of their last four contests. The Colonels are paced by 6’3 senior forward DeAndrye Henderson who leads the teams in points (16.5) and rebounds (9.2) per game. Senior Denzel Jones scores 8.6 and has pulled down 8.4 caroms per contest. Strong Vincent finished in sixth place in the eight-team Gateway Holiday Tournament (December 26-28). The Colonels’ Shannon Pullium is in his 13th season as head coach. Strong Vincent last defeated a school from the Buckeye State on February 9, 2009 (Conneaut, 80-47).

With the departure of Garrett Trosch, Nick DiBartolomeo and Donte’ Robinson’s transfer many viewed Hickory as taking a step back this season; however, head coach Nick Cannone has done an exceptional job of turning this group into a Region 6 contender. Since we turned the calendar to 2012, Hickory has won three of four games to bring the bees to a 7-3 record. Juniors Matt Votino (6’1) and Vinnie Mastrian (6’4) scored 20 points respectively in their 70-52 victory on Friday over Titusville.
LaBrae (12-0) enters this contest as one of only three teams which are undefeated (New Castle and East Liverpool) from the area. Over the Vikings last three contests, LaBrae’s defense has held the opposition to an average of 25.7. Peyton Aldridge, 6’7 sophomore point-center, has scored 15.2 per contest this season. Since the 2008-09 campaign, LaBrae has posted a 62-20 record for a winning percentage of 75.6%.

Sharon began the season with an 0-2 mark; however, the Tigers have won their last five outings. Sharon’s first win of the season came against East, 87-71, in the Dresch-McCluskey Holiday Tournament in Farrell on December 29. Last Tuesday, the Tigers garnered their fifth win of the year by knocking off Slippery Rock, 69-63. ‘Dre Jefferson tallied 25 points.
The Irish suffered through a tough week losing both match ups to Bedford and Malvern. On Tuesday, Ursuline dropped a 75-59 loss to Bedford. Ralph Naples scored 15 and Ryan Strollo poured in 14. In the Mercy Medical Center Classic on Saturday, the Irish fell to Malvern 71-67. Strollo hit a game-high 24 points.
