Up three with seven seconds remaining, Hickory's Anthony Cannone blocked 'Dray Jefferson's three-point attempt as the Tigers' Mark Henry grabs the rebound for the put back to bring Sharon within a point. After two missed free throws by Matt Votino, Jefferson's half court shot fell short as the Hornets got past Sharon 60-59 tonight. Hickory has now defeated the Tigers nine of their last twelve meetings.
The Hornets were led by Matt Votino's 22 points. Votino scored 28 points in their first encounter with the Tigers on December 17 when the Bees won 67-46. Vinnie Mastrian added 14 tonight.
Hickory (7-2, 9-5) gains a spot of first place in Region 6 following Farrell's upset win over Franklin (7-2, 12-2). The Hornets will play host to Oil City on Friday.
Sharon drops to 6-3 in Region 6 and 8-4 overall. 'Dray Jefferson poured in a game high 25 points including 3 three-point baskets. Marlin Sanders scored 18 for the Tigers. Sharon welcomes Grove City on Friday.
