Southern Local traveled to Sebring Friday night and both teams had a lot to play for.
Southern Local came into the game sitting 8th in Region 17 and needed a and some help to have any chance to make it to week 11. Southern was also hoping to increase their win total of last year from 8 to 9.
Sebring came into the game 4-5 on the season and was playing for the first .500 record since the ITCL merger. Sebring also had an outside chance of a playoff spot with a win and major help in Region 21.
Sebring jumped on Southern very early in this game and held a 21-0 lead just six minutes into the game. Josh Hurford scored two Trojan touchdowns while Dakota Wagner also scored. Southern pulled it to 21-14 at the half after two Zack Puckett touchdowns.
Hurford ran it in for another score in the third quarter and Sebring took a lead 28-14 in the third quarter.
Marcus Mick ran it in with 10 minutes left for Southern to pull the Indians back to a one-score deficit. Puckett scored his third TD of the night to tie it up at 28-28.
The game would then move into overtime. Southern got the ball first, and Puckett scored his fourth TD of the night from nine yards out to give the Indians a 35-28 lead. Sebring would get an opportunity next, and on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line, Dakota Wagner pushed it in to pull the Trojans within one. But Sebring would go for the win on a two-point conversion, and Southern's Dylan Ketchum would knock down the pass.
Southern wins in thrilling fashion, 35-34.
Southern Local will now wait to find out if they will make the OHSAA playoffs for the second year in a row.
