A suspected car thief is behind bars after an extensive search involving several Trumbull County police departments Wednesday.

Newton Falls Police Chief John Kuivila said Angelo Vecchio, 32, was in a stolen vehicle and was being pursued in the area of River Street when they lost contact Wednesday evening. A short time later, Braceville police tracked down the suspect and apprehended him. However, he eventually broke free and fled on foot.

Newton Falls police said he was again caught shortly thereafter.

Thermal imaging equipment was used in the search. Police called for a K-9 unit from neighboring departments, but there was not one available.

Vecchio will be arraigned on several charges Thursday.
