New Castle gained control of first place in the WPIAL’s Section 2 after their 83-54 victory over Central Valley. New Castle has scored 80-points or more four of their last five games.

Shawn Anderson was the leading scorer for New Castle with 20 points, while Corey Eggleston added 15 for the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes (3-0, 10-0) have won twelve straight regular season contests. New Castle is off to their best start since 2001-02 (26-0). Next up for the Hurricanes is Hopewell on Tuesday.

Last year, the ‘Canes ended Central Valley’s season with a 47-42 playoff loss in the district’s quarterfinal round at North Allegheny High School.

The Warriors (3-1, 7-4) last lost a home game on February 1, 2011. That loss came against New Castle, 70-60. Central will play at Beaver on Tuesday.
