Over the course of the past three seasons the Mustangs have compiled a record of 14-52 (21.2%). Last year, Mercer got off to an 0-15 start before finishing rather strong winning three of their final seven contests. Head coach Doug Schmid enters his third season at the helm as he will have to find replacements for 6’1 guard Justin Glass (16.5 ppg, 79.6% FT, 31.9% 3PT) and 6’2 center Josh Verigood (8.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg).

Schmid welcomes back seniors Paul McCullough (6’2/F) and Billy Selders (6’0/G). McCullough scored 4.5 points and grabbed 2.2 caroms, a year ago. Selders leads Mercer returnees in particularly every category (6.6 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.1 apg, 2.6 spg). The Mustangs will look to junior Nate Brest (6’2/C) to make an impact this winter after he was used primarily as a substitute last year (2.7 ppg, 2.5 rpg).

Mercer will attempt to recapture those winning ways of the last month of the 2011 season. The Mustangs begin the season on Friday, December 9 in the Tip-Off Tournament.
