If there's one area athlete that knows the road to Columbus, it's Maplewood senior Jordan Moxley. She's been to the State Track and Field meet every year since her freshman year.
"I just use that to my advantage," she says. "Every time I get into a competition and every opportunity I get, is just that mentally I have the experience to go through with it and be fierce and not let the little things worry me."
Moxley is the defending Division III high jump champion. This week in Tiffin, Moxley will compete in the regional meet, with hopes of once again advancing to state to defend her title.
"There's definitely a lot of pressure there. That makes me really nervous, especially with how I've been jumping. But, hopefully now I can sneak up on some people again, and show them that I'm capable of defending it (her title)," says Moxley.
Moxley hopes that her superstitious ways, help her clear the bar.
"I always wear the same socks when I jump well, so I have to remember to lay those out tonight," she says laughing. "I wear a really hot pink sock on my right foot and a blue sock on my left foot."
But the superstitions don't end there.
Moxley continues, "This is really embarrassing, but I always clap my legs, like I'm talking to them, telling them to work for me. People think I'm weird, like why is she hitting herself?"
Moxley hopes to match, if not surpass, her personal best of 5'8" when she jumps in Tiffin on Wednesday.
