Changes are abound in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League's football landscape. Class Quad-A and Triple-A was the main focus of change on Tuesday when the Board of Control agreed upon new football conferences and a new playoff format.

  • Class AAAA and AAA will have three conference instead of four with nine teams in each.
  • Class AAAA and AAA will still have sixteen teams qualify; however, there will be five teams from each conference and a wildcard from the classification.
  • Class AA and A will still have four teams from each conference qualify for the post-season.
  • The WPIAL will take care of scheduling all regular season games; however, Class A schools must obtain one game per season without the WPIAL's assistance.
