This week's 'Diamond Kings Contenders' takes us to the softball diamond where we will follow the Golden Flashes of Champion, who are putting together another fantastic season, among other outstanding individual efforts.

-Laurel’s junior Aislinn Deinert, slugged her way to a .600 batting average (9 of 15) with two three baggers and three runs batted in during her first six games. The Spartans are off to a 6-2 start.

-Katie Libb has been absolutely on fire crushing four homeruns and eclipsing the .500 mark (.516 batting average) for Columbiana. The Clipper junior has 16 base hits, 17 RBIs, and 12 runs scored as Columbiana is two games above five-hundred (7-5).

-Senior third baseman, Ashley Comninos, leads West Middlesex with 9 RBIs. Comninos is hitting .438 with 3 doubles and a homerun to her credit. The Big Red are 4-2.

-Cheryl Weaver has her Champion team sporting a 13-0 record and holding the #1 ranking in the latest AP Softball Poll in the state of Ohio. Junior pitcher Lindsay Swipas has been brilliant on the hill striking out a staggering 78 batters and only giving three free passes. Swipas is 9-0 with an ERA of 1.35 in 52 innings of work. She has six complete games and three shutouts. If that isn’t enough, Lindsay also has four homeruns and a .441 average at the plate. Her classmate, Haley Mcallister, belted a team leading 10 doubles and 18 runs batted in. Haley has a .564 batting average (22 of 39). Sophomore catcher Sierra Blackson has accumulated a nice stat line of 18 hits, 8 doubles, 9 runs scored, 16 RBIs and an average of .514. Senior team captain, Tawny Rogers, leads the team with a .628 average, 23 runs and 27 base hits. Rogers belted 4 homers and 8 doubles so far this season.

-Sharon has a hitting sensation of their own in Diana Revale. Number 15 has five extra base hits including 3 round trippers. Revale hits for a .429 clip (9 for 21) and has compiled 9 RBIs for the 4-3 Tigers.

The Diamond Kings, sponsored by Kernan Insurance Group and Fred Martin Ford, are the Valley’s best players in both high school softball and baseball. The best part is you help decide who will be a part of this team by voting under the ‘Diamond Kings’ link above.
