Trojans Seek Fifth Consecutive Winning Season
In his fourth year at Grenville, Coach Brian Herrick (22-11), has turned things around since the winless 2005 season. The Trojan football program has been one of the most storied in all of Mercer County. Herrick took over the program from his former mentor Bob Stone (winningest head coach in Greenville history) at the conclusion of the 2006 campaign.

The league Greenville plays in, Region 3, is one of the finest Class AA conferences in all of Pennsylvania. “You’ve got to be ready to play each week”, says Herrick. “Top to bottom I believe the league is going to be very solid. (You) can’t afford to have an off-week if you want to win the league.”

Greenville’s offensive game plan is very similar to many of the other Western Pennsylvania schools – run the football. Senior running backs Mike Black and Nick Weaver will be asked to carry the load for the Trojans in 2010. Those two will attempt to fill the shoes of the graduated Dylan Zuschlag, who rushed for over 1,300 yards last fall, and R.J. Malson (Mount Union). Herrick’s backs will be running behind an offensive line that will be playing together as a unit for the first time. “If our line can gel we could be pretty good up front,” says Coach Herrick. The Trojans will utilize a first year starter at quarterback in junior Tyler Gentile. Number 12 will step into the position after last year learning from Dave Holiga, who graduated this past June. Junior wideout Nico Zahniser brings big play capability to wherever he is on the field. Nick Stoyer, a tight end who was converted from his offensive tackle position, will be another option for Gentile on passing downs.

Stoyer was an All-Conference defender who compiled ten-or-more tackles in four consecutive games last October. The Trojans will have to replace four (Malson, Jordan Batt, Eric Fisher, Dillon Sarcinella) of their five leading tacklers from a year ago.

Between the dates of September 17 and October 15, Greenville will host four of their five contests during that stretch. That should be music to Coach Herrick’s ears as his Trojans have won twelve of their last fifteen home games.
