Following a Mooney interception by John Stoops, the Cardinals would repond with a 6-yard touchdown run by Mark Brandenstein, but the extra points was no-good. Mooney Kicker AJ Fox kicked a 39-yard field-goal as the first-half clock expired, to put the Cardinals ahead 9-7 at the half.
Karrington Griffin would tack on six more for the Cardinals in the third on a short touchdown run to increase the lead to 23-7.
Boardman would storm back on a Robbie Boyd 1-yard touchdown plunge to make it 23-17. The Spartans would get the ball back with under a minute to play, but Braylon Heard intercepted Boyd's final pass of the night as the clock expired to seal the deal for Mooney.
