This Sunday afternoon, the selection meetings will take place all across the buckeye state to determine the seedings for this year's boys' basketball tournament.
Here are my predictions on what will be decided this weekend.
Division I - Alliance District
#1 - Warren Harding (13-3) - The Raiders have won five consecutive games knocking off most recently Youngstown East (72-56), Timken (79-70) and Bedford (79-76) all on the road.
#2 - Kent Roosevelt (11-4)
#3 - Lake (13-3)
#4 - Hoover (10-6)
Note: It would not surprise me to see Green garner the #4 seed with their 10-5 mark.
Division II - Boardman District
#1 Struthers (14-3) - The Wildcats have won twelve of their last thirteen contests.
#2 Poland (10-5)
#3 Southeast (10-5)
#4 West Branch (9-6)
Division III - Salem District
#1 Springfield (15-2) - The Tigers are 15-1 since losing their season opener.
#2 South Range (14-3)
#3 Rootstown (10-7) - The Rovers have won five straight. Rootstown competes in the Portage Trail County League with the likes of Southeast, Windham, Mogadore, and Garrettsville Garfield.
#4 Crestview (12-6)
Note: Canton Central Catholic (9-6) is also in the district and could grab one of the high seeds also.
Division III - Howland District
#1 LaBrae (18-0)
#2 Newton Falls (14-3)
#3 Ursuline (9-6)
#4 Brookfield (13-3)
Note: This field is loaded and should make for one of the best district tournaments in recent history.
Division IV - Warren District
#1 Mathews (13-5)
#2 Windham (10-7)
#3 McDonald (9-6)
#4 Maplewood (10-8)
Note: Tonight's match up between Bristol and Maplewood could determine who acquires the #4 seed. In the season opener, the Rockets defeated Bristol, 75-57.
Division IV - Struthers District
#1 Mogadore (12-4) - The Wildcats have won seven of their last eight.
#2 Youngstown Christian (9-5)
#3 Wellsville (9-7)
#4 Western Reserve (10-7)
Note: Although, I have Wellsville in as a top four seed, if the Tigers falter this evening to Sebring and if Western Reserve defeats Jackson-Milton. Look for the Blue Devils to show up on one of the top three lines.
