The Springfield Baseball team fell to Patrick Henry 3-1 in the Division IV State Finals Saturday afternoon at Huntington Park in Columbus.
Patrick Henry senior Brian Kline scattered three hits and drove in a run to lead the Patriots to a repeat title in Division IV baseball. Kline blanked the 29-5 Tigers after giving up a run in the second. He retired the final seven batters.
The 25-4 Patrick Henry had a 2-1 lead after two innings but left the bases full in the third and stranded two runners in the fourth. The Patriots had 11 hits but left 12 on base. They finally got an insurance run in the fifth when Kline singled in Clay Maas with two outs.
The Patriots started the game with two singles, a groundout to put runners and second and third and a sacrifice by Chris Boyer. Tyler Phillips plated the second run with a hit.
Springfield got one run back in the second on a sacrifice fly by Matt Semach.
The Tigers managed just one run on three hits on the day. Springfield's stellar season comes to an end with a record of 29-5.
