Former Irish second baseman, Joe Wielbruda, was part of the University of North Florida's 2011 recruiting class. Wielbruda spent the past two seasons playing at Midland (TX) College where he was named to the 2011 First-Team All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference. Joe hit .425 (90-212) with 27 runs batted in and 22 doubles. Wielbruda has switched from second base to shortstop. In 2011, he helped the Chaparrals close out the season with a 33-26 record.
Wielbruda played in the Division III State Championship game in 2006 against Marion Pleasant. Although, Ursuline lost, 2-1, Joe went 1-3 in the contest. He was a member of three district title winners during his time at Ursuline.
At North Florida, Smoke Laval finished his first season as the skipper as his Ospreys' went 27-27 overall. UNF joined Division I in 2005 and are a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
