MyValleySports.com announces its 2011 Diamond Kings winners, representing the best softball and baseball players in the Mahoning Valley.
Ronnie Bovo, Springfield - The Tigers senior hit .361 this season with 20 RBI and 29 runs scored. Bovo also stole 11 bases, and caught seven stealing while behind the plate this year. His Springfield team finished the season as the Division IV State runner-up.
Alex DiDomenico, Boardman - The Spartans senior finished with 14 wins and eight shutouts this season. DiDomenico struck out 219 batters, while finishing with a 1.16 ERA, and winning the District Championship with a 19-K no-hitter. She also hit .416 with 24 RBI this season.
Erin Gabriel, Poland - The Bulldog junior won 16 games, struck out 234 batters, and finished the season with five no-hitters. Gabriel also hit .579 with 44 RBI and eight homeruns this year. Her Poland team finished the season as the Division II State Champions.
Ryan Gallagher, Cardinal Mooney - The Cardinals senior made six starts this season, earning four complete game victories. Gallagher struck out 57 batters, allowed just four earned runs all season, and finished with an ERA of 0.76. He has committed to play at Michigan next year.
Jenna Modic, Poland - The Bulldog junior led the team with a .593 batting average, 47 RBI, and eight homeruns this season. Modic struck out only one all year! As a pitcher, she won nine games and struck out 53 batters en route to the Divsion II State Championship.
Tawny Rogers, Champion - The Flashes senior hit .578 this season with 27 RBI and four homeruns. Rogers also proved to be one of the ares best defensive players with 31 putouts and 37 assists at shortstop. Her Champion team finished as the Division III State Champions.
Hank Schlueter, Columbiana - The Clippers junior won seven games and struck out 68 batters this season. Schlueter finished with a 2.88 ERA. He also hit .385 with 27 RBI, 28 runs scored, including three homeruns this season.
Lindsay Swipas, Champion - The Flashes junior won every game she started this season, 19 wins, 7 shutouts, 167 strikeouts, and a 0.97 ERA. Swipas also hit .442 with 25 RBI and five homeruns. Her Champion team finished 26-0 as the Division III State Champions.
Nick "Boo" Vazquez, Cardinal Mooney - The Cardinals senior led the team with a .533 batting average this season. Vazquez also finished wtih 17 RBI and 20 runs scored in just 17 games. He had seven triples and 14 stolen bases as well. Vazquez is committed to play at Pitt next year.
