One year after winning their first ever District Championship, Youngstown Christian has a chance to be back-to-back champs.
The Eagles pulled away from a scrappy Lowellville team in the second half and coasted to a 70-46 victory in Tuesday's Division IV District Semifinal at Struthers. They will face McDonald in the championship game for the second year in a row. Tipoff is Friday at 7:00 pm.
Youngstown Christian (21-1) had a balanced attack in Tuesday's win with John Pecchia leading the way. The senior guard scored 14 of his team high 18 points in the first half. Casey Carroll finished with 16 points while Lou Fatimas netted 15 and Anthony Walker pumped in 11.
The Eagles led 38-31 at halftime and built a 50-36 advantage through three quarters before out racing the Rockets in the final eight minutes. Lowellville was red hot from behind the arc in the first half, burying nine three-pointers.
Pat Minnie had the hot hand for Lowellville, scoring 17 of his team high 20 points in the first half. Mauro Amendola finished with 14 for Lowellville, which finishes with a 17-6 record.
