Union ends the regular season by winning five of the final seven games following tonight’s 53-48 victory over Western Beaver. The Scotties (5-5, 11-9) have won nine more games this year than last year (2-19). Union punched their ticket to advance to the WPIAL Class A Tournament by topping the Beavers.

Ahead by 1 with under thirty seconds remaining, the Scotties' Joe Salmen connected on two clutch free throws to give Union a 51-48 lead. Salmen took game-high honors with 17 as Markel Peace added 16 for the Scotties.

Western Beaver fell short in their hopes of finishing the year with a winning season. Western was led by Nick Miller, who finished with 13.

The Golden Beavers (4-6, 9-11) have not had a winning campaign since 2006-07 when they bowed out of the PIAA 2nd Round with a 19-8 mark. Western will close out the year at Riverview on Monday.
