After easily handling Warren JFK in Week One, South Range sets its sights on a showdown with Campbell Memorial.
The Raiders’ senior running back Floyd Kenney scored four times on three rushes (4, 2, 1) and a touchdown catch for 38-yards.
"Their defense keyed on Phiilip Arsuffi who is a really good running back, Kenney admitted. "They decided to give me the ball and run up the middle. The line really helped out, the line really blocked well," he said.
South Range quarterback David Buzzacco threw for 102 yards on 6 of 9 passing in the win.
"Kennedy is a great program, Head Coach Dan Yeagley said. "They have great tradition and luckily we were able to get them on our schedule, and us on their schedule. That's a game that should be played. We've played in the playoffs quite a few times. It was a good win for us against a quality opponent," he added.
But the Raiders are fully aware that the victory celebration is short-lived.
"You've just got to move on," Phil Arsuffi said. "It's in the past. It feels good at the time, but you've just got to gotta keep going, gotta keep focused on the next goal, and our next goal in Campbell," he said.
Campbell prevailed in the opener, 42-28, behind three Skevo Zembillas touchdowns, one of which was a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
"They have players," Yeagley admitted. "Their skill players are unbelievable. They're all explosive. You can't just key on one kid. They're all explosive. Their offensive line is big. They've got a couple of 300-pounders on each side of the ball. We've gotta try to keep their explosive offense on the sideline. Because, if not, they have a chance to score on any single play," he said.
Last year's 2-8 season snapped the Raiders’ streak of six straight playoff seasons. It's a trend of success the Raiders hope will return in 2010.
"Our ultimate goal for these non-league games is to prepare us for the league," said Dan Yeagley. "Our first goal is to win the league. We know that playing a team like Kennedy will help prepare us for the league. We know a team like Campbell will help us prepare for the league," he added.
