The Scrappers came up short in their bid for first place.

A late rally was not enough for Mahoning Valley as Williamsport won the battle of 8-6 teams with a 4-3 victory Thursday night at Eastwood Field.  Sebastian Valle drove in 3 runs for the Crosscutters, who built a 3-0 lead with single runs in each of the first three innings.

The Scrappers mounted a comeback with a pair of runs in the 9th.  John Allman scored on an error and Jason Smit scored on a sac fly from Tim Palincsar, but Mahoning Valley could draw no closer.

Preston Guilmet (0-2) took the loss for the Scrappers, who host the Crosscutters again on Friday night.
