Little League Play Opens; Boardman tops Canfield

Boardman used a nine run sixth inning to blow past Canfield in the opening round of the 11-12 year-old Little League district tournament, 13-6. 

Canfield had rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring four times to take a 5-4 lead.   Ryan Cheslik had a two-run double and Alec Gaetano added a two-run single for Canfield. 

Brandon Fuese's bloop single in the top of the sixth allowed Preston Stitt to score as Boardman tied the game.  Devin Curd added a two-run double later in the inning as Boardman plated nine runs to seal the victory. 

Jack Lynch added a two-run single earlier in the game for the winners. 

In other little league baseball action Poland deafeted Howland, 5-0.  Austintown defeated Struthers, 8-0. 

In softball, Poland defeated Boardman, 10-0.  Girard beat Howland, 15-2.
