A George Jr. Republic basketball legend returns to host a basketball camp in July.

Benson Callier, who attended George Jr. Republic in 2002 will be returning to Grove City to host the Professional Experience Basketball Camp, a camp for young aspiring male basketball players ages 6-17 on July 13-18.

The camp will consist of a series of workouts in which campers will learn the basics of dribbling, passing and shooting. On July 15-16 the camp will invite players in grades sixth through eighth to The Pro Experience. This camp will focus on player positioning, responsibilities and defense drills. On July 17-18 the camp will host grades ninth through 12th for lessons on advanced techniques, ball handling drills and high-flying tricks of the trade.

While attending George Jr. Republic, Callier averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists per game as a senior. The basketball player earned Mercer County’s Most Valuable Player honors and AP All-State honors at George Jr. Republic. One of Callier’s high school highlights includes a 58-57 victory and Player of the Game honor over Akron St. Vincent/St. Mary and its future star, 2009 NBA Most Valuable Player Lebron James.

Callier went on to pursue a professional basketball career playing in the Continental Basketball Association, International Basketball League, Swedish Basketball League and the Premier Basketball League. Through these experiences Callier has received an All-Rookie Team Selection, an All Star Selection where he earned a clean sweep, winning the dunk contest, three-point shootout and earning all-star game MVP.

Callier’s latest experience has been with the PBL’s Vermont Frost Heaves where he led the team in scoring and earned an All-PBL second team honor. According to www.probasketballnews.com, Callier is considered one of the best minor league players in the country. After all of his semi-professional playing, Callier wants to give back to the Grove City community where his basketball career began and to teach the secrets of his success.

“It is important for me to come back to the Grove City community to plant a
seed of leadership, teamwork and the pursuit of personal growth to
someone who may need that message.”

The camp will be held at Grove City Area Middle School. To register and for more information, e-mail Benson Callier at Benson.Callier@gmail.com or visit www.BensonCallier.Blogspot.com.
