Summer baseball in the New England states has been a destination for most of college’s best players. The Cape Cod Baseball League is enjoying its’ 125th year of existence. Two hundred and seven Major League players in 2008 had participated in the CCBL while they were in school. This year the league is holding its’ all-star game in Boston’s Fenway Park on July 23.

Eddie Rohan, former Ursuline standout, is representing the area in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer. Rohan is a sophomore at Winthrop. Eddie batted .348, hit 14 homeruns, 18 doubles and had 53 runs batted in for the Eagles (35-25) in 2009. This summer Rohan plays for the Hyannis (MA) Mets and is managed by Chad Gassman (Waldorf College). The catcher slash outfielder is off to a slow start as he has one hit in fifteen at bats (.067 BA) in his first five games. Eddie, however, has two RBIs and a stolen base as he has an on-base percentage of .222. The Mets have won 3 of their first 7 ballgames this season.

A few of the players who have played in Hyannis for the Mets over the years , just to name a few, are Casey Blake, Pat Burrell, Ryan Garko, Eric Hinske, and Jason Varitek.
