The LaBrae football team is back in the playoffs, thanks in large part to 1000-yard rusher Matt Szorady; however, the football field isn't the only place this senior standout has found success.

Szorady has been playing sports for as long as he can remember.

"I've always been interested. I have older brothers that played sports. Watching them growing up just made me want to be just like them and follow in their footsteps in playing sports," said Szorady.

That upbringing has served him well. Szorady will be a four-year letter winner for LaBrae's football team. A standout running back, Szorady is an all-conference and all-district performer for the Vikings.

"It just takes a lot of work, repeating all the basic fundamentals of the game; games you play in. It's just going out there and doing it. You can't just sit around. You have to get out there and do it and try to master it. You have to try to be perfect," Szorady said.

But his talents don't just end on the gridiron. Szorady is also on pace to be a four-year letterman, as well as all-conference and all-district player of the Viking basketball team, but he isn't necessarily playing favorites.

"It depends on what sports I'm in at that season, is the sport I like the best. As of right now, we're at football, so I like football right now better," explained Szorady.

Szorady's grades place him near the top of his class, and his name has never been off the honor roll.

"Again, it's hard work. You've got to study and keep up with your schoolwork because without your schoolwork you can't be out here playing in sports," explained Szorady. "You have to get it done in the classroom to be out here on the field and get the chance to participate in the sport."

For his efforts on the field, the court, and the classroom, LaBrae's Matt Szorady is our Student Athlete of the Week.
