When Maria Mancini picks up a golf club she usually has little trouble landing her ball in the fairway, blasting a bunker shot , or sinking a putt.
"For me the most challenging part is staying in the moment," said Mancini. "You have to fight for eighteen or nine holes to focus on each shot."
When Mancini does focus she usually finishes better than the rest. In fact, this Poland senior routinely drives the ball over 230 yards. She placed fifth in the state last year and will continue her career at Indiana.
"To be playing Big Ten is just an honor. It just shows you're an actual player and you can compete with people."
Mancini competes in the classroom, too, posting a 3.5 grade point average. There is no question that her swing has helped her studies.
"I mean it definitely helps with patience in school," said Mancini. "Golf is a lot of work."
For her work on the course and in school, too, we congratulate Maria Mancini as this week's Student Athlete of the Week.
