Kelsie Teaberry is used to being the underdog.
"I don't hit the ball that far so I have to make it up with my short game and chipping and putting," said Teaberry.
She usually makes it up and then some. Teaberry is a senior at Warren JFK and team leader, too. Her nine-hole scoring average is a 38.
"I practice almost every day on it," said Teaberry. "I try to be more accurate with my longer shots since I don't hit it as far."
Her biggest improvement is probably what will help her qualify for this year's state tournament, something she did as just a sophomore, too.
"Try not to get mad after you have a bad shot or a bad hole," said Teaberry "That can really affect your game. You could do bad on the first hole and [have] 17 other good ones."
Teaberry's success in the classroom matches her work on the course. She has a 3.98 grade point average. She volunteers at the Children's Rehabilitation Center in Warren and hopes to one day become a pediatric nurse.
"I really want to work with kids and help them overcome illnesses or challenges they may have."
Teaberry has been named to the first team All-North Coast League. She has also been named the Independent League most valuable player. She is a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta.
She plans to attend Kent State, Duquesne, or Pitt.
Congratulations to Warren JFK's Kelsie Teaberry, our Student Athlete of the Week.
