At a young age, Ali Gagne set a pretty lofty goal.

"I remember when I was in middle school," said Gagne, "I actually watched someone score their 1000th point. I was like, you know what, that's what I want to do."

If she hits her points per game average of 24, then she should reach that prestigious plateau in the next two contests. It could come sooner. Last weekend she tallied 46 points in a win over Conneaut.

"I had no idea. I had absolutely no idea," said Gagne with a big smile. " I thought I was somewhere in the twenties and then everyone on the bench just erupted in cheers."

Erupted because that performance is a Lakeview school record; however, like most outstanding leaders, she'd gladly push aside individual achievement for the continued improvement of the group.

"It's a team effort," said Gagne." "I realize if I'm doing good, they will look to get me the ball. If I'm not, I realize I don't have to hit so many points."

Gagne puts up big points in the classroom, too. She should finish as class valedictorian, but she also finds time for community service with the Warren Majorettes.

"I think it just makes you a better person," said Gagne. "You realize how much you have to give, show other people, be a role model, and step out to help others in your community. It's important."

She is also a member of National Honor Society, Senior Executive Committee, and French Club. Gagne has accumulated 11 varsity letters in her high school career. She was also a member of the soccer team and runs for the track team in the spring. Gagne hopes to play basketball in college and study pre-medicine or physical therapy.

Lakeview sharpshooter Ali Gagne is our Student Athlete of the Week.
