Any high school athlete would be thrilled to get a big time scholarship offer.
Amy Scullion had several division 1 schools after her in two different sports. Scullion is an All-State standout in volleyball and basketball, and the Salem senior finally decided to play hoops at Ohio State.
“You know, it was a harder decision than most people would expect,” Scullion said. “I love both sports, but what it came down to was, I wanted to be a Buckeye. And the basketball offer at Ohio State is something I couldn’t say no to.”
The 6'0'' senior has averaged 18.6 points, 8.7 rebounds, and four assists a game so far this season. She has led her team in points, rebounds, assists and blocked shots all four years of her career, earning All-League and All-County First Team honors every season.
In volleyball, Scullion is second all-time in Ohio for career kills with 1,700, and she was named First-Team All-State for three straight seasons. The Quakers went 103-8 with her in the lineup.
Scullion has been a force in the paint since her freshman year. In an effort to get ready for the Big Ten, she expanded her range this season and now leads the Red Division in three point percentage.
"Well, this year during volleyball season, I tried something different,” Scullion said. “One day a week, we'd come in and shoot, me and my dad would come in every Sunday together. Just tons and tons of shots, that's the only way to improve your range."
Scullion was featured in the latest edition of ESPN Rise magazine, so everyone now knows what kind of athlete she is. What many people may not realize is she also ranks No. 1 in her class as a straight A student.
"My parents made it clear early that grades were going to be a priority,” Scullion said. “They said whatever I was doing on the court or on the field was never overshadowed by my school work."
Scullion is also a member of Starfish, Pep Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
A top recruit in two sports, and at the top of her class, Salem's Amy Scullion is a success in both, making her our Student Athlete of the Week.
