The Sharon Tigers' roster is full of cubs as Annie Carpenter is the only senior on the team.
"I don't like being the center of attention, I guess," Carpenter said. "I love playing. And the girls love playing. We don't make it about individuals, it's all about the team."
Carpenter is the team leader in steals, assists and motivational speeches. She was a freshman on the last Sharon team to win a District X Title.
"I remind them of that every day, this could be the last time we make the playoffs," Carpenter said. "It could the last time in the next four years when I'm gone. And the girls after they graduate and keep going."
She is good for 10 points and six rebounds a game, which contributed to the Tigers' 19-3 record this season. The three-year starter, had nine points in the Tigers' tournament opening win over Warren, PA in the District X playoffs.
While Carpenter excels on the court, she does even better in school with a 3.85 GPA. She said she credits her good grades to the fact that she enjoys doing homework.
"It makes you feel like you've accomplished something," Carpenter said. "Instead of just doing nothing during the day. I like learning."
Carpenter is also involved in multiple volunteer activities, which has made her become a solid leader. Carpenter is involved in Teen Institute, Tri High Y, Students for Charity and Talent Search.
"They teach me to do the best you can do, keep your head up even if things aren't going your way," Carpenter said. "And just never give up."
This Tiger has earned her stripes, which made Annie Carpenter of Sharon our Student Athlete of the Week.
