He owns a state title, but will never get to defend it.
Garrett Trebilcock is the reigning Division 2 champ in the 200, but Canfield moved up to Division 1 this year. Since an athlete has never won a state title in both divisions, the senior swimmer has a chance to make Ohio history.
"Well, I guess I would be the first to ever do it, I guess, because last year was the first year for Division 2,” Trebilcock said. “So, moving up to Division 1, if I won it this year, it would be the first time anyone has ever done it."
Trebilcock is seeking his fourth trip to the state swim meet and holds a time of 1:53.00, which a state and Canfield record. Trebilcock said he is also hoping compete in the 200 and 400 relays, both of which include his younger brother, Gavin.
"I just really always liked the relays,” Trebilcock said. “It's always been a privilege to swim on them. And to experience it with my brother would be awesome."
Next year Trebilcock will make it to the big time when he swims in the Big Ten. He has already accepted a scholarship to Ohio State."
"I've always wanted to swim Division 1, and maybe beat Michigan,” Trebilcock said. “That's a big experience for an Ohio guy."
He's a success in the pool and in school. Trebilcock has a 3.8 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society and Key Club.
"Canfield's got a great track record on studying and academics and stuff,” Trebilcock said. “So yeah, I think they've prepared me for Ohio State."
