What is the Starting 5
Throughout the season we will showcase the Valley's most talented boys and girls basketball players. At the end of the season, 5 boys and 5 girls will be selected for the 2012 Baird Brothers / MyValleySports.com Hardwood Starting 5, as well as 2 coaches of the year and 2 teams of the year. Tre' Brown - Warren Harding

Cleveland State recruit Tre Brown, averaged over 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists a game, helping lead the Raiders to the Division I District Finals.


Nate Jacubec - Struthers

Jacubec topped 1,000 career points in January, hit a school record 9 three pointers in one game against Poland in February, and followed that up by leading the Cats to their first district title in 12 years.


Craig McFerrin - Warren Harding

In just one year with the program, McFerrin's presence in the paint was apparent to everyone watching. McFerrin averaged over 13 points, 8 rebounds and two blocks a game, and helped the Raiders reach the Division I District Finals.


Colin Reardon - Poland

Colin Reardon averaged over 22 points and eleven rebounds per game this season, helping lead the Bulldogs to an eighth straight appearance in the District Finals.


Patrick Horton - Farrell

Farrell's Patrick Horton joined the elite 1,000 point club this season, and led his Steelers to a 66-46 victory over rival Sharon in our MyValleySports.com Game of the Week. Horton finished with 27 points and 18 rebounds.

Girls Starting 5
Brittany Benedetto - Sharon

The Tigers senior led her team to 2 consecutive state tournament appearances, and amassed over 1,200 career points.


Taylor Hvisdak - Lowellville

The Rockets junior helped lead Lowellville to 3 straight Regional appearances, and averaged over 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals per game.


Megan Sefcik - Austintown Fitch

The Falcons freshman helped lead Fitch to their first winning season in 10 years, and averaged over 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals per game.


Kourtney Williams - Warren Harding

The Raiders senior finished her high school career as one of the top five scorers in school history with a total of 1,156 points.


Taylor Williams - Howland

The Tigers junior averaged just under 20 points a game, and became the first junior in school history to score over 1,000 career points.
Coaches of the Year
Stacie Cepin - Austintown Fitch

Led the Falcons to an 11-10 record. It was the program's first winning season in ten years.


Chad Kiser - LaBrae

Led the Vikings to a 20-3 season and a third straight trip to the District Championship game.

Teams of the Year
Boys
McDonald Blue Devils

The Blue Devils finished the regular season with an undefeated record for the third straight year. They also earned a regional tournament victory for the first time in school history.

Girls
Howland Tigers

Howland finished with a 21-2 overall record and a conference championship. Although the Tigers were upset in the District Semifinals, they finished the year ranked 14th in the state.

Ryan Allison Bio

Ryan Allison has been at WKBN-TV since July of 1998. He joined the First News Sports Department in October of 2001, and now serves as the Sports Director for WKBN, WYFX, and WYTV.  Ryan has been with myvalleysports.com since its launch in 2008.

Allison was born in Warren, Ohio and graduated from Howland High School in 1995. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Telecommunications from Youngstown State University in 1999.

Allison currently resides in Howland with wife, Nicole, and two sons, Owen and Arran. He is an avid boxing fan and spends his free time golfing and coaching his kid's soccer team. His favorite part of the job is covering High School Football, Youngstown State, and Kelly Pavilk fights across the country.
