The Youngstown State football team ended its fall camp with a 106-play scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at Stambaugh Stadium.

To open the scrimmage, Coach Wolford started the offense with a first-and-10 at their one-yard line. In both sequences the offense was able to get out of trouble as tailback Jamaine Cook helped carry the load for the first team while tailback Jordan Thompson handled the duties for the second team.

The offense's first score came on a 49-yard field goal by Jake Smith. Later, redshirt freshman quarterback Najee Tyler connected with David Rogers for an 18-yard score. The pass deflected off cornerback Grant Mayes and Rogers was able to coral it for a touchdown.

The defense stepped up during the next three series and four the of the next five holding the offense to three-and-out series. During that portion of the scrimmage, the defense forced the offense into 3rd-and-longs (19 yards, 11 yards, 15 yards and 18 yards).

The offense found the end zone when Hess connected with Juilian Harrell on an 18-yard toss.

Senior Dominique Barnes then had a highlight-reel kickoff return for a touchdown. Barnes brought a kickoff back 100 yards to headline some of the special teams work during the practice.

The offense went to work on some red-zone situations. Stephen Blose connected on a 32-yard field goal, Thompson scored on a 20-yard jaunt, Allen Jones found paydirt from a yard out before Hess threaded the needle for a 21-yard scoring pass to Barnes. Smith and Blose each kicked 22-yard field goals to round out the red-zone situations.

Then the offense and defense went head-to-head on a series of third-and-fourth-down plays. During that session, Cook galloped home on a 32-yard run, Jones scored on a 31-yard run and Tyler hit Ely Ducatel for a 33-yard score.

The final portion of the scrimmage had Hess and Tyler try to beat the clock in a 1:16 situation. Tyler guided the offense down the field to the 15-yard line before time ran out.

For the scrimmage, Hess was 9-of-15 for 112 yards and two touchdowns while Tyler was 9-of-16 for 93 yards and Marc Kanetsky was 5-of-7 for 33 yards.

Jones rushed for 69 yards on 12 carries while Thompson had 54 yards on five rushes and Cook had 49 on five rushes.

Harrell caught three passes for 25 yards while Barnes caught two for 46.
