Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State Swimming and Diving team traveled to Dayton to take on Wright State at Saturday at the WSU Natatorium, but fell short, 147-96.
YSU had a strong start in the first three events, taking second in the 200-yard medley relay, capturing the first three spots in the 1,650-yard freestyle and earning second and third in the 200-yard free.
The relay team consisted of freshman Ashley Dow, junior Sam Roberts, sophomore Laura Paz and senior Audy Grubbs, which posted a time of 1:53.16. Sophomores Megan Ciampa finshed first (18:02.27), Brittany Vigar came in second (18:17.79) and Kim Kurtz closed the trio coming in third (18:56.38) in the 1650 free. Senior Kirstin Walker and Grubbs finished in second and third in the 200 free, 1:59.39 and 2:00.35, respectively.
Ciampa and Vigar also finished in second and third in the 500 free with times of 5:26.04 and 5:27.95, respectively.
Junior Casey Hill took second in both the 1- and 3-meter dives (223.92 points and 237.57 points) and sophomore Breanne Horrigan earned third in both events, as well.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the last event, YSU took second and third place. The Guins's second-place team was Walker, Grubbs, sophomore Soyriah Davis and freshman Chelsea Malone. Sophomore Therese Stevens, Dow, senior Katie Wolf and junior Liseli Baich made up the third-place team.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Ashley Dow finished in first place clocking 59.61 seconds.
Paz seized second in the 100 fly (59.72 seconds) and third in the 200 IM (2:18.19). Freshman Carly Dean clocked a third place time in the 100 fly with a time of 55.68 seconds. Davis swam her way to third place in the 50 free (26.35 seconds).
The Guins continue their weekend Sunday at the Butler Invitational at noon.
