Former Youngstown State pitcher Justin Thomas was picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday.

According to a press release, Thomas, 25, helped the Penguins capture a Horizon League Title in 2004. Thomas spent the 2009 season with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers, where he went 2-4 with six saves and a 4.48 ERA in 53 relief appearances.

"Justin Thomas is a competitive, aggressive and physical lefthander with an average three pitch mix," said Neal Huntington, Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager. "With continued development, we feel he could be an interesting option for our bullpen."

The release states that Thomas made his Major League debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2008, posting a record of 0-1 and a 6.75 ERA in eight games during the month of September.
