Youngstown — Five of YSU's track and field athletes enjoyed victories in their respective events Friday night with the WATTS playing host to fifteen teams for the YSU Invitational.
Women's Results
Sophomores Anna Pompeo and Katrina Rettburg along with senior Laura Kosiorek captured first place in their events.
Pompeo won the 5,000m run in a personal-best time of 18:08.66, which now ranks eighth on YSU's top ten charts and is also the facility record. Ketey Heney finished in fifth with her personal-best time of 18:45.42.
In the one mile run, Samantha Hamilton took second, crossing the line in 4:58.01, two seconds shy of her personal-best. Heather Coonfare finished with a time of 5:40.22 while Alexis Cooper came in seconds behind her in a time of 5:47. 02.
Kosiorek and Nicole Rymer finished first and second, respectively, in the 60m hurdles. Kosiorek had a time of 8.87 seconds with Rymer coming in at 8:95 seconds. Kendall Homan placed fifth in a time of 9.33 seconds.
Ciara Jarrett took third in the 200m with a time of 25.03 seconds and fifth in the 60m with a time of 7.89 seconds. Alteeka Vanwright ran the 200m in 25.94 seconds, placing sixth, and ran the 60m in a time of 8.16 seconds, finishing tenth.
Nicole Pachol finished ninth in the 400m with a time of 1:00.16.
The 4x400m relay team of Pachol, Jarrett, Washington, and Vanwright placed first with a time of 4:01.27.
In the field events, Rettburg won the high jump with a mark of 1.68m. Leanna Hartsough's personal-best of 1.64m was good for third while Makayla Martin's jump of 1.62m finished in fifth.
Hanna Ropp hit a season-best pole vault mark of 3.27m for the second-highest mark in school history.
Kaitlyn Griffith finished fourth in the shot put, throwing 13.75m, while Allison Roth came in ninth with a throw of 12.32m.
Men's Results
Both Michael Davis and Dorian Davis finished their events atop the leader board.
Michael Davis captured first in the 60m dash with a time of 6.98. He placed second in the 200m, crossing the line in 22.30 seconds. Tarelle Irwin took sixth in the 200m, running it in 22.53 seconds
Eric Rupe finished the one mile race in second place with a time of 4:17.82; he was hundredths of a second off of his personal-best time. Freshman Austin McLean ran a personal-best by finishing in a time of 4:24.16, good for fourth place.
In the 60m hurdles, Martin Solomon placed third with a time of 8.36 seconds with teammate Clay Febus right behind in fourth place with a time of 8.45 seconds.
In the field events, Dorian Davis and Dan Skiba went one-two in the long jump. Davis' jump of 7.01m is the second-longest in school history while Skiba's 6.83m ties the fourth-longest in school history.
Aaron Hartsough placed fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.89m, tying his personal-best mark.
John Sever took third in the shot put, throwing a personal-best 16.68m. His throw ranks third on YSU's top ten charts. Benjamin Goodnight placed eighth with a personal-best throw of 14.74m.
With a weight throw mark of 16.57m, George Thomas finished fifth in the event. Caleb Schwan had a throw of 16.31m for sixth place while Bobby Grace's mark of 16.22m came in at seventh place.
The Guins are back in action on February 3-4 for the YSU National Invitational at the WATTS. Competition will include VMI, Bucknell, Oakland, Duquense, Detroit, St. Francis, and Wright State.
