Cincinnati, Ohio -- Junior Vytas Sulskis led the Penguins with 12 points and senior Sirlester Martin added 11 but Xavier shot an impressive 58.3 percent in the first half en route to an 83-57 win over the Youngstown State men's basketball team on Friday evening at the Cintas Center.
The Penguins fall to 0-1 overall while the Musketeers improve to 1-0.
Xavier scored the first eight points of the game and extended its lead to 16, 24-8, midway through the first half. and never looked back.
The Penguins struggled from the field, shooting just 25 percent in the first half, but improved to 39.4 percent in the second half and scored 33 points after halftime.
For the game, the Penguins shot 32.8 percent from the field and committed just 10 turnovers.
The Musketeers placed five players in double figures led by Jordan Crawford's 14 points.
The Penguins host Hiram, Sunday, Nov. 15, in the 2009-10 home opener at 4:05 p,m. at the Beeghly Center
