Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State Athletic Department announced the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2010. The eight-member class includes Adrian Brown (football), Chris Durkin (baseball), Dan Haude (men’s tennis), Tim Johnson (football), Heather Luben (volleyball), Leslie Majewski (women’s basketball), Kofi Owusu-Ansah (track and field) and Pat Strollo (contributor).
The group will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 30, as part of the YSU Hall of Fame/Homecoming weekend when the Penguins football team hosts the University of Northern Iowa at 1 p.m.
Brown, who lettered from 1996-99, was a member of the 1997 national championship football team and the 1999 national runner-up squad. He owns the school record for career rushing touchdowns with 55 and ranks second all-time with 3,978 career yards rushing. His 16 100-yard rushing games also ranks second in school history.
Durkin was a three-year letter winner for the baseball program from 1989-91 and led the team in batting average three straight seasons. A third round pick (79th overall) of the Houston Astros in the 1991 Major League Baseball Draft, he is tied for the school record for career triples, hit 17 career home runs and ranks second in school history with a .573 career slugging percentage.
Haude was a four-year letter winner for the men’s tennis team from 1987-91 and named team captain all four years. He finished with a career record of 56-13 at No. 1 singles and played at No. 1 singles all four seasons. During his sophomore season, Haude went undefeated with a perfect 15-0 record.
Johnson was a two-year letter winner for the football team from 1999-2000 and was named AP First-Team All-America in 2000. He ranks fifth all-time with 401 tackles and his 221 tackles in 1999 ranks second on the single-season list. His 180 tackles in 2000 ranks fourth in the single-season chart. Johnson played in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders.
Luben lettered four times for the volleyball program from 1993-96 and helped lead the Penguins to the first two 20-win seasons in program history in 1994 and 1995. She was a First-Team All-Mid-Continent Conference selection in 1996 and set the single-season kills (468, now second) and digs (448) records that year. She still holds the single-season digs mark and ranks seventh all-time with 1,020 career kills and ninth with 1,156 career digs. She is just one of four players to reach 1,000 kills and digs in a career.
Majewski was a four-year letter winner for the women’s basketball team from 1996-2000 and was a member of the 1998 and 2000 NCAA Tournament teams. She played in a school record 120 games and ranks 16th all-time in scoring with 1,000 career points. She ranks second all-time with 166 career 3-pointers made and fourth all-time with a 3-point field-goal percentage of .386. Her 70 3-pointers made in 1999-2000 ranks third on the single-season list, and she is the only player in school history to make at least seven three-pointers in a game on two different occasions.
Owusu-Ansah was a four-year letter winner for the men’s track and field team from 1997-2000 and won nine Mid-Continent Conference sprinting titles from 1997-2000. He qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 200-meter dash in 2000 and owns the school indoor track records in the 55-meter dash, 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. He also holds the outdoor track records in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash and was named the 2000 YSU-Vindicator Male Athlete of the Year.
Strollo served the Youngstown State athletics department as a video assistant from 1992-2004 on a volunteer basis after retiring from General Motors.
