The Pittsburgh Pirates designated Dana Eveland (LHP) for assignment today. Pittsburgh also added two relief pitchers, recalling Steven Jackson (RHP) from Indianapolis (AAA) and selected the contract of Justin Thomas (LHP). The decision to recall two pitchers was generated by yesterday's news that Zach Duke was placed on the fifteen-day disabled list.
Justin Thomas, former Youngstown State hurler, last made a trip to Major League Baseball in 2008 when he was with Seattle. Thomas went 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in eight appearances for the Mariners. Justin was 3-0 with a 1.30 earned run average in twenty-four games pitched in Indianapolis.
The 26-year old will be available for tonight's game against the Texas Rangers.
