The offense scored 10 touchdowns -- seven on the ground and three via the air -- in the first fall scrimmage between the offensive and defensive units on a sunny Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium. Jamaine Cook and Allen Jones each scored three touchdowns.
Redshirt freshman Kurt Hess performed with the top offensive unit throughout the scrimmage. He finished the scrimmage completing 14-of-21 passes for 195 yards and had two scores. Junior Marc Kanetsky completed 5-of-11 attempts for 51 yards and a touchdown while redshirt freshman Najee Tyler was 5-of-11 for 62 yards. The quarterbacks did not throw an interception in 42 attempts.
All four tailbacks found the end zone during the session.
Tailback Adaris Bellamy opened the scoring with a 45-yard touchdown run. Bellamy finished the scrimmage with 61 yards on six carries before leaving with a bruised knee.
Jones scored on runs of four and three yards early and capped the workout with a 39-yard scoring run on the final play. Jones had highs in carries (23) and yards (149) on the day.
Cook had a strong afternoon rushing for 81 yards on 22 carries and scoring twice. Cook scored two tough one-yard runs at the midway point. His 19-yard touchdown reception came during the "overtime" session when he caught a Hess pass on a fourth-and-four at the 19 and found the end zone before having his helmet knocked off.
Freshman Jordan Thompson had 21 carries for 81 yards and scored on a one-yard run.
Hess threw a 20-yard scoring toss to Dominique Barnes, who caught the ball at the 10, slipped the grasp of Brandian Ross and scored. Kanetsky connected on a 6-yard scoring toss to Dionte Snow.
A highlight for the defense included a goal-line stand when Cook was stopped on a fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line.
The offense finished with 670 yards of total offense (362 rushing and 308 passing) on the day.
