Starting pitcher James Teyssier won his third game of the spring on Sunday afternoon as the Tomcats downed Mount Union (Ohio) College, 7-3, at 23rd Street Field. The Tomcat victory haulted a three-game win streak by the Purple Raiders and raised Thiel’s record to 7-5.
Mount Union fell to 7-3 with the setback.
Thiel held the advantage from start to finish, but put the nail in the Raiders’ proverbial coffin with a four-run seventh inning.
Teyssier allowed only three hits in seven innings of work to improve to 3-1 on the young season. The junior struckout four and allowed one run. Senior Dave Diyorio pitched the game’s final two innings.
The Tomcat offense pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon, led by sophomore catcher Brock Porter who went 3-for-5. Jake Thomas played a pivitol role in the Thiel offense notching two hits and driving in a game-high firve runs.
Senior Luke Johnson and freshman Eric King each scored a pair of runs for the Tomcats.
Thiel returns to action on Friday when open their PAC schedule at Waynesburg at 3 p.m.
